The Smoke (Australian band)

The Smoke are an indie rock band formed in 2008 in Melbourne, Australia. They found acclaim with their debut album Blood Orange (2009), which was well-received by music critics. The band is composed of singer Dane Robertson, guitarist Luke Cartwright, drummer Ryan Ferguson and multi-instrumentalists Leigh and Daniel Mullens.

Blood Orange was recorded and produced by the band in their living room.[1] The song Defeat Retreat was released in December 2008, and was quickly added to the playlist of Australian youth broadcaster Triple J. [2] It was named Single Of The Week in Rave and Beat magazines. Second single Sweet Spanish was named Single Of The Week by Inpress Magazine's Clem Bastow and iTunes Australia.

Following the release of the album, the band signed with The Harbour Agency and toured Australia's East coast. The Smoke are noted for their wild live show, with one reviewer describing Robertson's stage moves as a "Mick Jagger-Elvis Presley-Zombie hybrid." [3]

The Smoke has been named as a main stage act at the Pyramid Rock Festival in December 2009.[4]

The band parted ways with Luke Cartwright early in 2010 and now go by the name of Black Fox. Official Myspace
